Lamar County Court Record Requests
Precision comes first in Lamar County. Ask for one record, not everything tied to a name. There is no single records office here. Circuit and County Court files, Chancery files, Justice Court records, and municipal court records all live with separate clerks. Depending on what you need, the right channel may be the clerk counter, a phone call, mail, the county contact route, PAMEC for qualifying electronic material, or the Chancery land index. The clerk's office can walk you through its current submission and payment steps. Ask before you send anything.
- Identify the Lamar County court, exact case number if known, and the approximate year and case type if it is not known.
- Name the item wanted, such as a docket sheet, motion, judgment, minute entry, setting notice, or appeal record.
- Ask the Lamar County custodian whether the item is public, restricted, sealed, expunged, juvenile, or available in a redacted form.
- State whether a plain or certified Lamar County court record is needed, then ask for the current fee, payment method, delivery choice, postage, and turnaround.
- Use the counter, telephone, mail, online route, or PAMEC account as the Lamar County custodian directs, and keep the request and response.
Note: A specific request gives the Lamar County clerk a clearer way to locate a file and explain any access boundary.
Lamar County Court Record Custodians
Two clerks hold most of the paper in Lamar County. The Lamar County Circuit Clerk keeps the court records for circuit and county cases. That office is the stop for criminal dockets, civil filings, and county court matters. The Chancery Clerk keeps chancery suit files, dockets, minute books, issued process, and the records used in appeals. Below that sit the lower courts. Justice Court and the three Lamar County municipal courts each keep their own files. Pick the right clerk first. That saves you from treating a county name as one giant records office.
Not sure which court sent your notice? The county's official contact route shows how to reach Lamar County offices. Use it to ask where a case docket lives.
That contact route can point a Lamar County records inquiry in the right direction. Still, the court named on the case decides which clerk can pull the underlying record.

Kinds of Court Records
A Lamar County court record may be a running docket or a single document in the case file. Public, non-restricted items can include pleadings and responses, service records, orders, judgments, sentencing or dismissal orders, minute entries, setting notices, and an identified appeal record. A Chancery request might target something else entirely. That could mean a docket book, a minute-book extract, a suit file, a land index entry, or a recorded instrument. The court and the record type matter. Together they determine which Lamar County office and access channel you use.
- Plain Lamar County docket sheet or chronological entries.
- Complaint, petition, answer, motion, response, summons, process, or return.
- Order, judgment, sentencing order, dismissal, or nolle prosse order.
- Minute entry, minute-book extract, calendar item, or setting notice.
- Certified copy of a specified Lamar County court document, if the custodian confirms it is available.
- Chancery land index entry or instrument image, subject to the portal's official-index warning.
Lamar County Court Records and Docket Lookups
A docket lookup and a records request answer different questions in Lamar County. The lookup finds the case. It follows the sequence of entries. The record request gets the actual document behind an entry. That could be a filed motion, a judgment, a minute entry, a transcript, or a certified record. The gap matters when a docket entry names a ruling. Then you may need the signed order itself. It also matters when you have a case number and want one particular filing. For the legal framework behind judicial records, the Mississippi Law portal is the state's official route to current code research. Keep in mind that it does not certify anything. A docket result is still not a certified copy. The Lamar County clerk still keeps the file.
The code route helps you see the legal framework. The Lamar County custodian hands over the actual public court record or explains any restriction.
Court Records: What They Contain
Case files are not interchangeable across Lamar County courts. That said, a public record usually ties a case number and court to dated filings. It also shows docket activity. Treat the docket entry as a locator. It is not always the full text of an order. When the operative ruling matters, read the filed document and its date. Ask the clerk, too, whether an attachment or exhibit carries its own access limit.
| Court and case number | Identifies the Lamar County court that keeps the file and the particular matter to locate. |
|---|---|
| Docket sheet | Chronological entries showing filings, settings, orders, and status activity. |
| Pleadings and process | Filed complaints, petitions, answers, motions, summonses, process, and returns if public. |
| Orders and judgments | The signed or entered record that states an order, judgment, sentence, dismissal, or other ruling. |
| Minutes and notices | Minute entries, minute-book extracts, and calendar or setting notices maintained by the relevant Lamar County clerk. |
| Restriction status | A seal, court order, juvenile rule, or other limit can block or narrow release of a Lamar County court record. |
Lamar County PAMEC Court Record Access
PAMEC's non-attorney terms describe an account-based public layer for participating MEC courts and non-restricted materials. Lamar Circuit Court and Lamar County Court joined MEC on November 4, 2019. PAMEC can locate eligible electronic docket material and returned pages. It does not replace the Lamar County clerk, Justice Court, or a municipal clerk. Registration costs $10 annually. Returned search pages cost $0.20 each. A no-match search still includes one returned page. A Lamar County PAMEC result may come up empty for several reasons. The court may not participate. The case may be restricted. The record may sit in a lower court, or the file may need clerk confirmation. A blank screen does not mean a Lamar County court record never existed. The right clerk can point you to another record path.
Lamar County Land Record Index Boundary
The Lamar County Chancery online records portal can help with land records. It cannot replace the full Chancery court file. The portal itself carries a disclaimer: the web version is not the official land-record index. The index at the courthouse controls. When an official land reference matters for a case lookup, ask the Chancery Clerk how to inspect or get a copy of the official index or the recorded instrument itself.
For state-law questions behind a Lamar County record, the Mississippi Legislature's official research route publishes the statutes. Those statutes govern how such records work.
That research route complements the Chancery custodian. It does not replace the clerk's direction on the official index. Online land-record purchases by credit card carry a 3.5% service fee with a $2 minimum. They are final under the portal terms. That fee applies only to the online land-record purchase path. A court-file copy or a certified Chancery record is billed separately.
Copy Fees and Certification
Ask before paying anything. The Lamar County clerk needs to know the exact form: a plain copy, a certified copy, another certified form, or a transcript. Each carries a different price. The Circuit Clerk's published duties include applying the official court seal. That seal carries real weight. It does not, however, certify a PAMEC printout, a land-index image, or a general search result. Neither Lamar County Circuit nor Chancery publishes a certified-copy fee or a turnaround time. No number is safe to assume. Get the clerk to quote the full total before any payment goes out.
| Lamar County record-access item | Official amount or status |
|---|---|
| PAMEC annual registration | $10 per year |
| PAMEC returned search pages | $0.20 per page, including one page for no match |
| Chancery land online card purchase | 3.5% service fee, $2 minimum; final purchase |
| Lamar Circuit or Chancery certified court copy | Fee not located in official Lamar sources; call the clerk |
| Lamar Circuit or Chancery certified-copy turnaround | Not located in official Lamar sources; ask the custodian |
One caution about Lamar County Justice Court figures. The civil filing charges it publishes are not copy fees. They read $84 for one defendant, $99 for two, $114 for three, and $15 for each additional defendant, with $70 for named post-judgment actions. Those amounts answer a filing question, not a copying one, so never quote them as the price of a Lamar County court-record copy, a certification, or a traffic citation.
Lamar County Certified Court Record Fee Finding
No published Lamar County certified-copy amount exists, and that gap is itself the answer. Guessing a figure would only mislead you. The Mississippi Legislature's legislation-search route lets you check current law directly. But the copy practice at issue sits with the relevant Lamar County clerk. So ask the office for specifics. What certification language will appear, along with the seal and signature? Which payment method does the clerk require for your identified court record? What about postage and delivery method? The Legislature's official search page is the state-law channel for Lamar County record questions.
That research route will not hand you a Lamar County clerk quote. A current fee and delivery estimate must come from the court custodian itself.
Access Rules for Court Records
Mississippi's baseline access law is the Public Records Act of 1983, Miss. Code ยงยง 25-61-1 et seq. It opens public records broadly. Exemptions, reasonable procedures, and fees still apply. For Lamar County court records, that statute works beside court-specific confidentiality rules. It also works beside any sealing or restriction order on the file. The Act changes none of those lines. Juvenile, adoption, family, mental-health, commitment, protection-order, and sealed-file boundaries all stand.
Public-records boundary: The Mississippi Ethics Commission's Public Records Act page explains the Act's procedure, exemptions, fees, and complaint path. A Lamar County requester should direct the request to the record custodian and ask for a redacted public version or docket entry when a complete file is restricted.
Note: Keep the Lamar County request, the response date, and the fee quote handy when asking a custodian to explain a restriction.
Lamar County Court Record Restrictions
Electronic access in Lamar County reaches only participating courts and non-restricted material. The Fifteenth Circuit system flags sealed files. It also flags restricted-by-order items. The clerks' published work includes categories that can hold sensitive material. A case code on a Lamar County search result proves nothing more. That code does not show every attachment can be copied. Nor does it show that an unavailable document has no public counterpart.
When a Lamar County file is partly restricted, ask a narrower question. Can the public docket entry be released instead? Can a redacted document, a specific order, or a minute entry be released instead? Never type protected identifiers as search terms or try to slip past a restriction. A court order and the custodian's direction govern access to that particular Lamar County record.
Lamar County Court Record Mail and Counter Requests
Whether you go by mail or to the counter, give the Lamar County court, case number, party name, approximate year, case type, and the exact document you want. Details route a request faster. The Circuit Clerk mails at P.O. Box 369, Purvis, MS 39475, and the Chancery Clerk at P.O. Box 247, Purvis, MS 39475. Call ahead if you need a current fee quote. Ask too about a certified form or a set delivery method for the copy. Lamar County Justice Court sits on a separate track at 205 Main Street, Suite A, Purvis, with P.O. Box 1010 for mail. Purvis, Sumrall, and Lumberton municipal records stay with their own municipal-court custodians. For Lamar County court case records, the name printed on the ticket, notice, or docket is your best routing clue.
Lamar County Court Record Law Research
Where do you turn for the law itself? The Ethics Commission is the clearest official portal. It is the state's answer for a Lamar County public-records request question. The Secretary of State's Mississippi Law portal and the Legislature route both support current statutory research. Remember their limits, though. These statewide sources explain the access framework. They will not identify a Lamar County case file, publish a local certification fee, or decide a court-specific restriction. The official Ethics Commission page presents Mississippi's public-records access information.
For an actual Lamar County court record, law alone is not enough. Pair the state-law source with a focused request to the Circuit Clerk, Chancery Clerk, Justice Court, or the named municipal custodian.
