Lamar County Civil Docket Searches
Every Lamar civil search begins with the court. Each court keeps its own records. The Lamar County Circuit Clerk handles Circuit and County Court files first. The Chancery Clerk holds chancery suit files, dockets, and minute books. Justice Court keeps its own lower-court civil work. PAMEC offers online access to eligible, non-restricted Circuit and County Court material. It requires an account. It is not a free county-wide civil search form.
Bring the exact case number if you can. No complete Lamar civil case-number format is published without an account. Never guess one from a code. A clerk-assisted request works well instead. Give the court, the rough filing year, a public party name, and the type of matter. Then ask for a docket sheet, a filed order, a judgment, or a certified copy. The Lamar County docket search route also helps you separate the court choice from a name or number lookup.
For Circuit or County Court, Circuit Clerk Martin Hankins is listed at 203 Main Street, Purvis. Mail goes to P.O. Box 369, Purvis, MS 39475. The phone is (601) 794-8504. Ask whether a counter search, courthouse terminal, paper record, or mailed copy request fits your file.
- Identify whether the Lamar matter belongs in Circuit, County, Chancery, Justice, or a city municipal court.
- Use PAMEC only for eligible, non-restricted Circuit or County Court records after completing the public account process.
- Call, visit, or mail the proper Lamar clerk if the case sits in Chancery, Justice Court, municipal court, or is not returned online.
- Ask whether a public terminal, docket book, minute book, or paper index is available for the court and date involved.
- Name the exact record wanted and ask about plain-copy, certification, postage, and payment requirements before sending money.
Note: A search that returns nothing may simply mean you are in the wrong place. The case might sit in a different court, an older record, a restricted file, or a separate land-record index rather than no Lamar civil case at all.
Lamar Civil Docket Code Map
The Circuit Clerk's published civil codes give Lamar requesters a local vocabulary for describing a case. They label record families. They do not set a universal docket-number pattern or promise that every file is open. The court and clerk still matter. A CH listing, for instance, does not replace the Chancery Clerk's separate role in keeping chancery dockets, minute books, and suit files.
| Code | Lamar Circuit Clerk label | Search-routing use |
|---|---|---|
| CH, D, F | Chancery, Dissolution, Family | Confirm whether Chancery Clerk custody applies. |
| ED, L, LM, MR | Eminent Domain, Law, Law Minor, Miscellaneous Remedy | Use the court and exact case number to find the correct record. |
| MH, OP, P | Mental Health, Orders of Protection, Probate | Ask about public access before requesting a document. |
| MC, SC, TX | Municipal Corporation, Small Claims, Tax | Confirm the Lamar court and clerk rather than relying on the label alone. |
The Circuit Clerk code list supplies these Lamar categories. Use it to ask a precise question of the correct custodian. It is not a substitute for the docket entry or the filed document itself.
Civil Dockets: What They Show
A Lamar civil docket records a lot. It names the court and clerk, the exact case number, and the filing date. It also lists public parties and attorneys, service or process, pleadings, motions, settings, orders, judgments, appeals, and restrictions. The title alone may not show what a ruling actually did. Read the filed order or final judgment when its effect matters. And keep the basic rule in mind. A complaint is an allegation, not proof that anything was found true.
| Court and clerk | Shows whether Lamar Circuit, County, Chancery, Justice, or a city court keeps the case file. |
|---|---|
| Case number and filing date | Use the exact number and date to distinguish similar matters and locate later orders. |
| Parties and process | Public party or attorney fields, issuance of process, and return information can help identify the right case. |
| Pleading, motion, or setting | Records a filing or scheduled event, not proof that a hearing occurred or a claim prevailed. |
| Order, judgment, appeal, restriction | The final order controls; an appeal or access restriction may lead to a separate record path. |
Read Lamar civil docket entries in order. A later order can change the practical meaning of a complaint, motion, setting, or earlier docket notation.
Lamar Civil Chancery Record Books
Chancery Court is Lamar's equity court. It covers family matters, estates, land, commitments, and protection orders. The Lamar County Chancery Clerk creates and maintains suit files, issues process, records activity in docket and minute books, keeps the dockets current, and prepares records for appellate review. Those jobs make the Chancery Clerk the right first stop for a chancery case file. That holds true even though the Circuit Clerk's code list includes CH and related categories.

The official Chancery Clerk page describes the Lamar civil docket duties and equity-record functions.
Name the item you want. A request can specify a docket, minute entry, suit-file document, order, judgment, or certified record. What you ask for shapes what the clerk must locate, and it affects which fees or access limits may apply.
What Cases Fill the Civil Docket
Lamar civil dockets draw from several court paths, not one case category. Chancery handles equity matters such as family, estates, land, commitments, and protection orders. Circuit and County Court carry their own civil work and records route. Justice Court's civil division lists declarations and past-due accounts. It also covers evictions, replevins, small claims, protection orders, garnishments, and related forms. These labels describe court types and custody only. They are not advice about any individual dispute.
- Chancery and related equity matters, including land, family, estates, and probate.
- Law, law-minor, eminent-domain, municipal-corporation, and tax categories on the Circuit Clerk list.
- Small claims and other Lamar Justice Court civil matters within its stated jurisdiction.
- Orders of protection or mental-health categories that may carry special access limits.
- Appeals or post-judgment entries that require the controlling court record.
Lamar Civil Cases Under $3,500
Lamar Justice Court reports civil jurisdiction under $3,500. Its county page lists a civil division covering declarations, past-due accounts, evictions, replevins, small claims, domestic orders of protection, garnishments, and forms. Justice Court is a separate Lamar custodian. So a lower-court civil case belongs there, and you should not assume it will appear in a Circuit or Chancery docket search.
The county page gives no reporting vintage, so treat the figure as a workload indicator rather than a current audited series. The official Justice Court filing notice, effective July 1, 2022, lists the charges plainly. A new suit with one defendant costs $84, two defendants $99, and three defendants $114. Each additional defendant above three adds $15. Named post-judgment actions carry a separate $70. These are filing or process charges, not copy fees.

The Lamar Chancery fee schedule page posts an advance-fee notice that stands apart from the Justice Court filing charges. The page's own line-item table supplies the details, so rely on that official schedule for any Chancery amount.
Fees in Lamar County civil matters are easy to misread. Before you file or request a record, ask the clerk which charge the quoted figure covers: filing, service, a plain copy, a certified copy, or recording.
Hearings on the Civil Docket
A Lamar County civil docket can list many kinds of entries. Complaints, answers, motions, service, hearings, continuances, mediation, orders, judgments, and appeals all appear. A setting only means the court scheduled an event. It does not prove the event took place. In the same way, a complaint shows a claim was filed, not that it was won. The operative order or final judgment is the entry that actually explains a ruling. Look at its date and text. Confirm any Lamar civil setting with the clerk who holds the case file. The state term calendar and a court's general operating pattern will not give you a party-by-party calendar. Dates move. A later docket entry, a reset notice, or a General Continuance flag can change everything. So ask for the current setting. Ask also for the time, the court location, the judge, and any cancellation or continuance on file. Note: A court term tells you when court may sit. A Lamar case setting gives the hearing information for a specific file. That is what you should confirm.
Lamar Civil Land Index Boundary
Lamar County's Chancery portal is handy, but know its limits. It handles land-record indexing. Yet it is neither a county-wide civil docket nor the official land index. The search panel, result grid, detail pages, document images, exports, and purchase options all serve one purpose: finding recorded instruments. Its own disclaimer states the web index is not official. The courthouse index controls. Searching a land instrument is therefore a different task from tracking a chancery lawsuit or ordering a certified court record. The Lamar Chancery records portal opens with a welcome page. That welcome page carries the disclaimer limiting the index's official role.
The search screen offers names, date ranges, instrument number, book and page, legal description, and parcel-related fields. Those are land-index fields, not a civil docket schema. The Lamar Chancery inquiry screen lists those criteria without turning them into a case-file search.
For a Lamar land-related lawsuit, one question settles everything. Ask the Chancery Clerk whether you need a court docket, a suit-file document, a minute entry, or a land-record instrument.
Who Can See Civil Dockets
Most Lamar Chancery cases are public and open. Most, though, is not all. Adoption, juvenile, mental-health, commitment, family, and protection-order matters can carry special access limits. Sealed cases can too. Non-public attachments and protected information inside an otherwise public case raise the same concern. Ask whether a redacted copy exists. Ask, as well, whether you are seeking a public docket, a document, a certified copy, or a land record.
Access rule: The Mississippi Public Records Act information page identifies the Mississippi Public Records Act of 1983, Miss. Code §§ 25-61-1 et seq. It supplies a public-records framework but does not displace judicial rules, sealed orders, or court-specific confidentiality limits.
Start with the custodian's own process. A mailed request to a Lamar clerk should use that office's exact mailing address. It should ask up front about copy, certification, postage, payment, and delivery costs. The county general contact route is available. But case-record requests belong with the proper clerk. Skip sensitive details unless that custodian requests them through an appropriate channel.
Lamar Civil PAMEC Fee Layers
PAMEC is public access software for participating MEC courts and non-restricted electronic documents. Its non-attorney terms set a $10 annual registration charge. They also set a $0.20 charge per page returned by a search. A no-match result still costs one page. That fee buys an electronic search, nothing more. It is not a Lamar certified-copy fee. Nor is it a Justice Court filing fee or a Chancery recording fee.
| Charge layer | What the Lamar research supports |
|---|---|
| PAMEC electronic search | $10 annual registration and $0.20 per returned page for eligible public electronic access. |
| Justice Court filing or process | Published 2022 amounts for new suits and listed post-judgment actions, subject to verification before filing. |
| Chancery advance fees | Fees are due in advance; the full embedded table was not readable in the research pass. |
| Certified court copies | No complete current Lamar Circuit or Chancery certified-copy fee was located. |
Ask the Lamar clerk for the current total before you pay. The PAMEC terms explain the online account charge. The clerk who maintains the civil file can identify any copy or certification charge.
